Project Lifesaver: A service provided by UC Sheriff's Office
Project Lifesaver: Ensuring Safety for Those Who Wander
The Union County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with Project Lifesaver International, provides a crucial service to help locate individuals with Alzheimer’s, dementia, autism, Down syndrome, and other cognitive disorders who may wander and become lost.
🚨 If a Project Lifesaver (PLS) client is missing, call:
📞 Union County Dispatch: 908-654-9801
Why Project Lifesaver?
🔹 Over 5.7 million people in the U.S. have Alzheimer’s, a number expected to triple by 2050
🔹 More than 50% of these individuals will wander or become lost
🔹 Lost persons with dementia or autism often do not call for help or respond to rescuers
🔹 Immediate action is critical to ensure a safe return
How It Works
✅ Participants wear a radio frequency tracking device on their wrist, emitting a unique signal 24/7
✅ If a participant goes missing, specially trained Sheriff’s Officers use tracking equipment to locate them quickly
